Preparing For Motherhood

You are probably late and have done a pregnancy test and it is positive; the excitement the emotions and then the anxiety of the whole process starts taking its toll on you!

Congratulations and welcome to the journey! However this time should not be a time to curl up on our couches and probably lie lazily on our beds; it is a time for us to get active and read! Read, read, and read! These basic tips can be a guide:

  • Exercise regularly in order to prepare yourself both physically and mentally. However care should be taken while exercising and we should seek advise from our obstetrician to know which is best for us
  • Eat healthy to promote adequate growth for the child and keep us in great shape
  • Read books on pregnancy and related materials to be informed because we can never know it all.
  • Attend antenatal classes regularly and try going along with your partner (you will be surprised how this will help in bonding)
  • Always be attentive to your body and once you don’t feel right, don’t assume, visit your doctor
  • Listen to calming music a lot as it will help you and the baby relax (See our section on music, pregnancy, and child development
  • Last but not least, always ask for help if you are overwhelmed.
