Week 9
What is happening to your baby:
- Your baby will move if touched through the wall of the uterus.
- All organs, nerves and muscles start functioning
- Fingers and thumbs appear
What is happening to you:
- Your breasts have become fuller and may feel very sensitive.
- You may find that you cannot fit into your clothes any longer as your waistline expands.
- Heartburn might become a problem
- Your skin might improve in appearance because of increased blood volume
- You may have nose-bleeds
What is happening to your baby:
- Ears are completely formed.
- Genitals are more clearly defined.
- Your baby has toes.
What is happening to you:
- Your stomach grows bigger as your bowels become distended.
- Breast veins have become more noticeable because the blood supply to the breast increases.
- Nausea starts reducing
Week 11
The embryo can now be called a foetus
The foetal period lasts until birth and is a time when the organs, muscles and systems begin to function.
What is happening to you:
- Your uterus is about the size of a grapefruit
- You may be experiencing headaches.
- Your appetite start increasing
- Dark vertical line of pigmentation called LINEAR NIGRA may appear on your belly
- Sleep might be a bit difficult now
- Most of the critical development in the foetus will tail off
Week 12
What is happening to your baby:
- Your baby now has reflexes.
- Heartbeat can be heard
- The kidneys have started to produce and secrete urine
What is happening to you:
- You might start showing
- You might start feeling stronger as fatigue and nausea reduce significantly
- The urge to run to the toilet often might reduce because the uterus has risen above the pelvis
