Man who sexually assaulted sleeping woman in a New York train
A woman who fell asleep on a train in New York was sexually
assaulted by a man. Police said it was all caught on video and are asking for
the public’s help in catching the suspect, according to reports.
A woman, 21-years-old, who was allegedly sexually assaulted on the
subway in Manhattan, went to police after seeing a video of the grisly attack
uploaded on the internet, police said Friday. The woman, who was wearing a
dress, was sleeping on train Number 4 southbound when a pervert sitting beside
her began to caress her around 4 am Saturday.
Jasheem Smiley, 21, who was sitting in front, began recording the
encounter with his iPhone.
The video, which was posted on YouTube, shows the
woman suddenly wakes up and punching the man in the face before she jumps off
the train at Grand Central Station. She later saw the clip online and reported
the incident to the police. Shortly after the video went viral, Smiley said he
did not want to confront the suspect, so he recorded the incident for evidence.
"I was petrified," he said. "I did not know what this man is
capable of. I do not know if he had a knife." Police asked anyone with
information about the suspect to call NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at (800)
577-TIPS.
