Swiss line discovers root cause of ageing

A Swiss anti-ageing skincare brand discovers a new ingredient that addresses the root cause of ageing.

BEAUTY brands have long been jostling for that coveted spot in their claim to fame for discovering the next big thing in anti-ageing skincare. Some of these products have shown results while others leave customers disillusioned. Anti-ageing Swiss skincare brand Swiss line is hoping that its newest discovery provides the answer, which everyone is looking for.

Proven medical studies claim that, “chronic inflammation is the cause and not consequence of ageing”. Swiss line capitalises on this understanding to create its newest anti-ageing product – a serum that’s quite a mouthful – Swiss line Cell Shock Age Intelligence De-Aging Restorative Complex. The Age Intelligence De-Aging Restorative Complex (AI De-Aging Restorative Complex) is a new formula and claims to be different from its predecessor, the Cell Shock Age Intelligence Cellular Recovery Complex (AI Cellular Recovery Complex).

The AI Cellular Recovery Complex – launched in 2008 and claimed to be the first product in the industry to use an airless syringe to preserve the integrity of its medical-grade ingredients – was an iconic product for the brand, and a bestseller for skin recovery and correcting signs of ageing. “We changed the formula because we wanted something stronger to help heal and restore skin. We are a Swiss paramedical brand, and we use strong medical-grade ingredients so this new product comes with stronger ingredients,” says Switzerland-based Laura Nicholson, international training manager for Swiss line, at the recent product launch in Kuala Lumpur. “Prevention is the first step. However, if a woman opts for lasers, injections or microdermabrasions, we want to give them a product that will support the recovery after such procedures,” she adds.

A new ingredient, Ronacare – a pharmaceutical cyclopeptide – has been added to the new product. “We wanted to go further with Artificial Intelligence and we knew that there are ingredients in the pharmaceutical world that can heal skin. Our scientists in R&D focused on the newest, safest and best results-oriented ingredients, and they came across Ronacare,” says Nicholson. The key actives in AI De-Aging Restorative Complex include Age Intelligence Complex.

This consists of two key ingredients, namely Perfluorodecalin, an oxygen carrier proven to mimic natural cellular respiration and an FDA-approved blood substitute that ensures the cells take the optimum amount of oxygen to attain the optimum production of collagen; and Madecassoside, proven to modulate the skin’s chronic inflammatory conditions and rebalance the skin’s natural protection of the horny layer of the skin, giving it a smoother, more even feel. It also has Cellactel 2 Complex, a powerful biotech botanical cellular complex, exclusive to Swiss line Cell Shock collection. “We work with marine based-ingredients and botox contains bovine elements so we would never include animal extracts in our products. The formula has Botox Pro-Complex which means that it supports cell renewal and prolongs the effects of botox,” she explains.

Essentially, the product is claimed to slow dermal ageing by boosting collagen and elastin production to counteract the loss of elasticity, and modulate the skin’s chronic inflammatory response. Lanolin has been removed as it is not compatible with oily skin.

According to Nicholson, when it comes to skin ageing, it is not only chronological as medical studies point to chronic inflammation as the cause of ageing. “Someone with premature ageing skin means the skin has been so damaged either through a lack of SPF protection, exposure to burning or scars that were not allowed to heal properly,” says Nicholson. “Chronic inflammation makes us age faster.”

The product is targeted at those in their early 30s, but it is suitable for use at any age. She pointed out that this product can be used alongside other products, but advised that this serum be applied after cleansing, followed by other products. On young skin, the product is intended to be preventive rather than corrective. “It’s worthwhile to invest in one good product that will prevent chronic inflammation rather than a range of costly products that won’t really help your skin,” she concludes.
