China teacher abuse: Kindergarten teachers detained after hitting students

A Chinese teacher abuse scandal is almost unbelievable. According to an Oct. 25 report from NBC News, the teacher named Li Zhuqing actually hit kindergarten students when they could not answer math problems.

A closed circuit video in the classroom recorded the incidents. Of course, people throughout China and the world are outraged over what the video contains. The teacher taught at Sky Montessori kindergarten in Taiyuan, which is the provincial capital of Shanxi. Police actually detained Li Zhuqing on Tuesday. The school was also shut down because it did not have a license.

A father of one of the students reported the abuse to police after his daughter came home with bruises on her face. The father named Han said, "The teacher [Li] did it because she couldn't answer 10 plus one correctly. She is not a teacher. She should not be a teacher. To put it plainly, she is not a human being." The absolutely scary thing is that this woman somehow thought it was okay to treat students in this manner. It is even worse that they are only in kindergarten. Talk about scaring students for life!

Unfortunately, this does not appear to be an isolated incident. Another teacher named Yan Yanhong at Blue Peacock kindergarten in Wenling, Zhejiang province was photographed holding a student up by his ears. This is unbelievable! How could teachers be allowed to behave this way? Yanhong said, "I thought it was fun, so I pulled his ears and asked my coworker to take a photo. The 5-year-old boy was quite naughty and after the ear-pulling he didn’t make any mistakes the rest of the day."
Wow!
Unfortunately, part of the problem is that a large portion of the teachers at the schools are not properly qualified. Obviously. However, even if they aren't qualified, what would make them think that abusing the students is okay?
