CONJOINED eight-month-old twin girls have been successfully separated
during a seven-hour operation in the US.

The girls, named Allison June and Amelia Lee Tucker, shared a chest
wall, diaphragm, pericardium and liver, the Los Angeles Times reported. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia lead
surgeon Holly L Hedrick led 40 cardiologists, plastic surgeons, and neonatal
surgeons in the seven-hour operation to separate the conjoined twins, the
Philadelphia Inquirer reported. "We expect ... them to live full, healthy and independent lives,"
said Hedrick in a statement. "Allison and Amelia are currently recovering in the Newborn/Infant
Intensive Care Unit (N/IICU) and will be monitored closely by CHOP’s expert
clinical teams for the duration of their recovery."
The girls' parents Greg and Shellie Tucker learned that the twins were
conjoined about 20 weeks into the pregnancy. "This has been one of the
most incredible journeys for our family, but we are excited about the next
phase in Allison's and Amelia's lives," their mother said in a statement. The
family are from Adams in New York. The surgery at Philadelphia's Children's
Hospital was the 21st conjoined twin separation performed by the hospital's
surgeons.

Doctor's should get the same recognition people like the Kardashians get. They do amazing things on a daily basis, and no one cares. Separating conjoined twins is no joke, so many things could go wrong. They are the ones that should be getting non-stop media attention. They save lives everyday. It's sad that no one finds this important.
